Vaccination Update – September 28 2023

We are making good early progress in our plans to deliver COVID-19 Autumn booster vaccines to the most vulnerable people in North Wales.

In recent weeks, our vaccination teams have visited dozens of care homes throughout the region to offer the booster vaccine to residents. We have also visited many of our housebound residents.

While we continue to vaccinate people who live in care homes and people who are housebound, we are now making plans to offer the booster vaccine to other eligible patients.

Your appointment

We expect the first letters inviting eligible people to attend COVID-19 Autumn booster appointments will begin to land on doormats in Gwynedd and Anglesey this week.

Other areas of North Wales have a greater number of care homes, and our teams will need longer to complete vaccination of care home residents in these areas before moving on to other eligible patients. The first letters inviting people to attend appointments in Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire and Wrexham are likely to be issued in two to three weeks.

Your appointment letter

Please wait to receive an invitation for your vaccination appointment. There is no need to contact us. People eligible for the COVID-19 Autumn booster will be invited in turn according to their clinical risk, as advised by the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation.

Appointments will take place at a community vaccination centre or GP surgery near you. Full details, including date, time and location of your appointment, will be in included on your letter.

Our programme will once again see very large numbers of appointments being delivered every day, so please keep to the appointment offered where possible. If you do need to change your appointment more details about how to do this will be included in your letter.

Your COVID-19 Autumn booster and your flu vaccine

Where possible, you may be offered your COVID-19 Autumn booster and flu vaccinations at the same time. It is safe and effective for you to receive both vaccines at the same time. In most cases, for practical delivery reasons you will be invited to receive the vaccines at two separate appointments.

We remain concerned about the potential for a new wave of COVID-19 cases and reports of a severe flu season in Australia. Please protect yourself this winter – make sure you take up your invitation to receive both your COVID-19 Autumn booster and Flu vaccine as soon as possible.
