Vaccination Update – November 29 2023

We would like to thank the tens of thousands of people across North Wales who have already come forward to increase their protection against COVID-19 and flu this winter.

Our vaccination teams and partners in primary care have so far delivered more than 130,000 COVID-19 Autumn booster vaccines to people who are at risk from the virus.

GP practices, community pharmacies and school immunisation teams have helped around 140,000 people protect themselves from flu with the annual flu vaccine.

Invitations for COVID-19 Autumn booster appointments

Our teams are now sending invitations to the small number of eligible people who have not received an appointment for their COVID-19 Autumn booster vaccines. These appointment letters should arrive by post very soon.

By the end of this week, we expect we will have invited everyone in North Wales who is eligible for the booster to an appointment at one of our vaccination centres.

It is never too late to receive your flu vaccine. If you are eligible, you can contact your GP or a participating community pharmacy near you to receive your vaccine. More information about eligibility and how to receive your vaccines is available here.

We continue to encourage parents of two and three year olds to take up the offer of a painless nasal spray flu vaccine at their GP surgery. Our immunisation teams are visiting schools throughout North Wales in turn to offer nasal spray flu vaccines to children from Reception to Year 11 – please look out for more information and a consent form, which will be sent to you by your child’s school.

Drop-in vaccination appointments for people working in health and social care

We urge all health and social care staff to help protect the most vulnerable people in North Wales this winter by coming forward for their COVID-19 Autumn booster vaccine.

Many people who work in healthcare and care-related roles will have received appointments to have their booster at one of our community vaccination centres over the next few weeks. Please attend this appointment to protect yourself against COVID-19 this winter.

Anyone who works in a front-line health or care role (including in a care home, as a domiciliary carer, or at a pharmacy, GP or dental surgery, optometrist or opticians) can also now drop in to one of our centres without an appointment to receive a COVID-19 Autumn booster vaccine.

Where possible, all these staff will be offered a flu vaccine at our centres if they have not already received one this year.

Viruses change each year – so it is important to have the latest vaccine to top up our protection against the strains of the virus currently circulating in the community.

Taking up these vaccines will give all health and care workers the best possible protection against COVID-19 and flu. Please make sure you take up this opportunity to protect yourself and the vulnerable people you care for this winter.
