Phlebotomy

The Phlebotomy service is responsible for collecting blood samples.

All blood sample for laboratory testing will be collected by an appropriate health care worker via your GP or other Health Care Professional.

When referred you will be directed to the appropriate phlebotomy service, where your sample/s will be referred to the laboratory.

Any questions regarding your tests should be directed to your GP or Health Care Professional.

Facemasks

Everyone coming into our hospitals will be provided with a fluid resistant facemask on arrival.

Patient Preparation

  • Certain tests require special patient preparation; details will be given by appropriate health care professional. Patients should continue to take their medication unless instructed differently by their Doctor.
  • If fasting is required patients must not eat or drink (except water) for a minimum of 11 hours prior to having their blood taken. During this time patients should not smoke, chew gum or exercise. After the specimen has been taken normal diet may be resumed.
