Birthing pools (water birth)

Lying in warm water can help you relax, and women often say that it helps lessen the pain of contractions during labour. You can also do this in your bath at home in the early stages of labour. Being in water will help you to adopt positions which are effective to help labour progress as birthing pools allow freedom of movement and supports your body to do it’s job.

Whilst you are in the water you will continue to be regularly monitored. If there are any concerns with the baby or your condition, your midwife or doctor may recommend that you leave the pool.
