Smoking is the single largest cause of avoidable illness and early death in Wales. Hospitals are one of many public places now required by law to be smoke-free. This measure will help protect the health and wellbeing of everyone who uses our hospitals, including our patients, staff and visitors.
We are committed to reducing the damage to health caused by smoking, including from exposure to harmful second-hand smoke.
Under new laws passed by the Welsh Government anyone found smoking at our hospital sites – inside or outside – could be fined £100.
Please do not smoke anywhere on our hospital sites, either inside or outside. Our smoke-free policy means patients and staff may not smoke cigarettes, e-cigarettes or vapes.
Please do not smoke anywhere on our hospital sites, either inside or outside. Our nursing staff and specialist smoking cessation staff will help you to stay smoke-free during your stay in hospital.
When you are admitted to hospital you will be asked if you are a smoker and offered free nicotine replacement therapies like patches and lozenges. You will also be offered personal support from a Help Me Quit advisor as part of our Help Me Quit in Hospital scheme.
Admission to hospital is a good opportunity to quit smoking for good. You can continue to receive free support and nicotine replacement therapies from Help Me Quit when you are discharged. We encourage all patients to take up this opportunity
