Over recent months, the Health Board has continued its review of services at Tywyn Community Hospital, alongside a wide programme of engagement with local communities, staff, clinicians, partners and other stakeholders.
This has included community engagement events, meetings with staff and clinicians, discussions with local organisations and independently facilitated “Balanced Room” sessions involving a range of stakeholders. These sessions have helped to shape and test potential future service options and the criteria used to assess them.
The review has considered the feedback from the community where there is significant interest and strong feelings about the future of Dyfi Ward, alongside the need to ensure that future services are clinically sustainable, supported by a resilient workforce, provide value for money and reflect the national direction of providing more care closer to home.
A paper will be presented to the Health Board’s public meeting on 30 July 2026. The Board will be asked to approve two potential future service options for inclusion in a formal public consultation:
No preferred option is being recommended and no final decision is being sought at this stage.
The proposed consultation will allow local people, staff, stakeholders and partners to comment on the options and help test the evidence, assumptions and impact assessments presented by the Health Board. Any reasonable, evidence-based alternative proposals put forward during the consultation will also be considered.
Following consultation, all responses will be independently analysed and presented to the Board alongside any additional evidence received before any final decision is made.
Subject to Board approval, the formal consultation is expected to begin in late summer and run for 12 weeks. Consultation materials, including accessible and bilingual versions, are currently being developed.
We would like to thank everyone who has contributed to the process so far and look forward to continuing the conversation over the coming months.

As a result of our continued engagement about the future of inpatient services at Tywyn Community Hospital, further work will be carried out to refine the options that will be taken into a formal consultation process later this year.
We recognise that uncertainty has continued for some time and we want to be clear that our priority is providing the best possible care and services for the whole population. We have heard the strength of feeling within the community about the future of services and we want to make sure that all scenarios are fully explored and developed before any decision is made.
Representatives from key stakeholder groups will take part in a further facilitated session in March to ensure all available options are fully reviewed, scored appropriately and take into account the latest available information and the range of perspectives shared. This will also include options that were not prioritised from the original long list during the previous session.
This will ensure the Health Board has the most informed and appropriate options to consider for approval in May that will then be subject to formal consultation. A final decision is expected later in the year.
We would like to thank everyone for their continued interest and engagement in this important work to shape the future of inpatient services at Tywyn Community Hospital.
