Susan

Susan, 64, adopted the motto “If nothing changes, then nothing changes”.

I wanted to lose weight because of feeling generally unwell. My doctor said that I was pre-diabetic, and I was on medication for high blood pressure. I had struggled to lose weight after a Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA) a few years ago. I struggled to put socks on as my belly was in the way! I would wake every morning and think “you are still fat and out of control”, but try as I might, by the evening I was back to my old habits. My clothes were tight and looked terrible, and at my age and being overweight, COVID-19 was a real threat. I needed to change. Also with aging, I had a responsibility to myself to stay healthy and active.

I heard about Slimming World through an online form. I might have joined Slimming World but felt I’d ‘failed’ so many times. Then out of the blue, I had a referral from my health board; it was an opportunity not to be missed. My consultant Chrissie was amazing, and I became in control of ‘me’ again.

When I first joined Slimming World, I just felt “oh no, here I go again”. But that’s now changed, and it works if you change your attitude.

Being overweight affected my health, but now, my blood pressure is down, and I have an opportunity to stop all medication. I’m no longer pre-diabetic!  My stamina, lung capacity, self-esteem and confidence have improved greatly, and I no longer snore!!!!

My motto is “if nothing changes then nothing changes!” This was me, I had to change! And since losing weight I’ve increased my activity and my fitness levels have improved.

I’ve tackled Snowdon and now do lots of rambling!  I swim in the sea daily (almost), even in winter, and I rarely drink alcohol.

The best things to happen are in the changing room, where I can’t believe it’s me in the mirror! And I’m getting compliments.

What I love about Slimming World is that I’m now conscientious about what I eat and the impact it has on my body. Chrissie, my consultant, is always there for everyone regardless.
