Statement: Healthcare Inspectorate Wales report into Ysbyty Glan Clwyd Emergency Department

The most recent inspection report into Glan Clwyd Hospital’s emergency department (ED) between April 29-May 1, 2024, has recommended it be de-escalated as a Service Requiring Significant Improvement (SRSI) and highlights the care, compassion and professionalism clinicians and staff take in caring for patients.

The report, published today and available to view on the link below, recognised the work which has been done by clinical leaders to improve the ED.

Carol Shillabeer, Chief Executive, said: “I want to thank all staff involved in helping to improve Emergency Department services within Glan Clwyd Hospital, and particularly the staff in the department for their dedication to continuous improvement, while working under constant pressure.

“Whilst clearly there are still issues that need to be addressed, we are all committed to provide the very best care and experience possible. Our Emergency Departments are always extremely busy and we are looking at ways to provide services differently to help improve the waiting times and people’s experience of healthcare services. This report shows that tangible and positive difference is being made, whilst indicating the further improvements we are total committed to taking forward."
