Strong Leadership and Engagement

We know we must focus on improving our culture, the way we identify, develop and attract leaders and we must also improve the way we engage and involve our communities, staff and stakeholders.

As a Board we are committed to engaging directly with our staff, our communities and our partners who all have an important part to play in our journey of improvement.

We know that we have to work closely with our staff, our communities and our partners to get things right. This means not just early, but continuous engagement where we listen to and learn from the experiences and expertise of others.

We are committed to strong, visible leadership internally and externally, including with the media and public to re-build trust in how we run our services.

Progress made

  • A new Leadership Development Framework is being put in to place to help develop and attract leaders. Workshops and sessions are taking place with leadership and culture change experts, such as the leading academic Michael West and former Chief Executive of Admiral insurance, Henry Engelhart.

  • The Board has started to meet with communities across North Wales to give them a chance to ask questions and find out more about the plans for the future.  This approach is being taken to increase visibility and strengthen engagement with communities across North Wales. We held our Annual General Meeting in a community centre in Llandudno and have had two conversations with communities so far this year where people have been able to talk to frontline staff to learn about their day-to-day work and meet Board members who were able to provide an insight into the health board future plans. We are planning more.

  • A new Citizens Experience Report has been introduced to inform Board members about the key themes of interest and concern to the public.

Future Plans

  • The Health Board will continue to develop the way it engages with communities and stakeholders, both in terms of sharing information in an open and honest way and also to improve the opportunities people have to directly engage with the Board, NHS staff and services.
