What to bring

Please bring items for your room that will help you to feel more comfortable, familiar and at home. These items can be:

  • A coat for outings and walks
  • Crafting or hobby items and games
  • Dressing gown and slippers
  • Distractions and fidget toys
  • Electric hair equipment (kept for you in your personal pod)
  • Hair removal cream (kept in your personal pod)
  • Mobile phone with camera disabled 
  • Mobile phone charger (kept in charging room)
  • Photographs or pictures for the notice board in your bedroom
  • Shampoos, shower gels, bubble bath and roll on deodorant 
  • Trainers for gym 

Please don't bring anything valuable with you to NWAS as we can't take responsibility for the safety of the items you own. If something of yours gets broken we can't replace it. There are items you are not allowed to bring on the ward. The following items are not allowed on the ward:

  • Aerosols - bring roll on
  • Pencil sharpeners, knifes, scissors, blades, razors, drawing pins or staplers
  • Glass items including mirrors (and in compacts/ makeup, pictures, perfume, make up bottles)
  • Drugs or alcohol
  • Laptops (unless agreed by management for school work)
  • TV's 
  • Chewing gum
  • Music with offensive lyrics
  • Clothing with offensive slogans or pictures
  • Books or magazines with offensive contents or age inappropriate
  • Cigarettes, lighters, vapes or any smoking materials 
  • 18 years or 15 years DVDs, only 12 years or PG
  • Mouth was with alcohol in 

You are also welcome to bring personal diaries and journals. On rare occasions, staff may have to read what you have written. For example if we have significant concerns about your safety or that of others. 

Laundry

We have laundry facilities. We will encourage you to wash your own clothes.
