Looked after Children

Our team of specialist nurses at looked after children offer specialist support, advice, and interventions for all looked after children and their families across North Wales.

Our nurses support the physical, emotional health, and wellbeing for children and young people in care from 0 - 25 years, working in collaboration with the generic health visitor and school nurse services between 0 - 16 years of age.

Children may be placed in care due to a court decision saying that the child is unable to live with their own family and requires looking after in care, or it may be the parents have made agreements with the local authority to care for their child.

Children in care may be placed with their parents, extended family and friends, foster carers, in residential children’s homes or in secure accommodation.

Looked after children legislation for Wales can be found on the Wales Government website.
