Work has started on the development. So far, a new car park entrance has been installed on Car Park 2 of the hospital and preparatory works are underway for the construction phase.
Over the next few weeks various changes will become apparent around that car parking area, as work begins to ramp up. The portacabin, which was installed to house security before free parking was introduced, will be removed.
Fencing is already being installed around the works site and work to alter some of the lighting columns is also taking place.
Felling works, relating to non-native trees, will commence next week. The comprehensive landscaping plan which is included in the scheme’s brief will see a net increase in trees around the development.
There will be deliveries on site and visitors are reminded of the road works, relating to the Pure Homes construction site, adjacent to Glan Clwyd Hospital. So, if possible, please allow extra time when travelling to Glan Clwyd Hospital for the foreseeable future.
Obviously, there will be some disruption to, and loss of, parking spaces during some of the works which are taking place. There will be no net loss of parking spaces on site overall, because of the construction work.
If you have an outpatient appointment and can be dropped off and collected by someone, it would really help us manage the available car parking spaces on site. We apologise for any inconvenience while the works go ahead.
This development will bring a welcome and worthwhile resource for current and former cancer patients, and their families, throughout North Wales.
Stakeholder meeting “great success”
A stakeholder meeting, explaining the role of Maggie’s North Wales at Glan Clwyd Hospital, was attended by more than 40 people recently.
Jalibani Ndbele, Glan Clwyd Hospital’s director of operations, opened the third meeting for anyone interested in the scheme. There was also a presentation of some of the latest CGI designs for the new centre, presented by Sarah Beard, Maggie’s business development director (see accompanying images).
An extended question and answer session followed, where the panel replied to enquiries about parking, layout, access from other areas of the region, the services it will provide and how the new facility will collaborate with the North Wales Cancer Centre.
Sarah Beard said: “The latest stakeholder session was a great success. We had some really interesting and thoughtful questions, along with some really insightful first person testimonies from people who’ve used our services in the past.
“It’s really important to us to engage with everyone and be really clear about our mission in North Wales. That includes members of the public, clinicians and elected representatives.”
Jalibani Ndbele said: “It was really good to have a positive and inspiring conversation about a new service coming to Glan Clwyd Hospital. We are really looking forward to welcoming this new resource for the people of North Wales and adding to the services we already have for those with cancer, their families and their friends.”
More stakeholder sessions will be organised as the project develops. They are open to members of the public, who can get more information about them via ours, Maggie’s and The Steve Morgan Foundation’s social media channels and regularly checking this development page.

Possible disruption to traffic flow on Glan Clwyd Hospital site
To facilitate construction work on the new Maggie’s Cancer Support Centre at Glan Clwyd Hospital, there will be some alterations to traffic flow on site.
From Thursday, July 11, there may be disruption for vehicles entering Glan Clwyd Hospital via the main road off the roundabout, with a lane closure in effect.
These works are necessary to make adaptations to road markings and the entrances to the car park before building construction starts on the centre. Priority will be given to emergency ambulances at all times.
Our apologies for any inconvenience this will cause.
We will keep you updated about the development and any further on-site traffic issues on our website, here: Maggie's Centre North Wales - Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (nhs.wales)
