The ‘Help with my weight’ team can consider referral to the specialist multidisciplinary team for people meeting the following criteria:

  • BMI over 45kg/m2
  • Referred to ‘Help with my weight’ by healthcare professional

  • Ready to commit to a minimum further 6-month programme. This involves a considerable amount of commitment to further behaviour changes.

Please note referral by healthcare professional is required for patients with BMI over 45kg/m2 to ensure we have the necessary information to provide the appropriate support.

Following assessment, the multidisciplinary team will offer an individualised programme according to your needs.  This could be:

  • Working with a Dietitian to change eating patterns
  • Psychological therapy
  • Working with an Occupational Therapist to overcome barriers to weight loss or to improve wellbeing
  • Attending a group to address wellbeing or emotional/binge eating.
  • Working with an Excercise Professional to increase activity.
    •
  • An appointment with the Medical Consultant, to assess your metabolic health and offer treatment, if needed.

The team can consider referral on for weight loss (bariatric) surgery if appropriate. For such a referral, individuals need to demonstrate a period of engagement with the specialist service and show psychological and physical readiness for weight loss surgery. There is currently a considerable wait for surgery, in excess of two years.
