Speech and Language Therapists have an important role in assessing, treating, managing and preventing voice disorders. In many cases, voice therapy delivered by an SLT can help to improve or eliminate a voice problem.

If you have had a problem with your voice for more than three weeks, it is important to see your GP who may refer you to an ENT. An ENT is a specialist who can perform an endoscopy to assess the vocal mechanism. This procedure produces a clear view of the vocal cords, which allows for an accurate diagnosis. An ENT may then refer to Speech and Language Therapist for advice, further assessment and therapy.
