The North Wales Clinical Research Facility (NWCRF) is situated on the Wrexham Maelor Hospital site and serves the population of North Wales, and beyond. The NWCRF delivers a variety of studies, but has a focus on early phase commercial studies and includes work with local GP practices, pharmacies and dental surgeries.
The founding Director of NWCRF Dr Orod Osanlou, a consultant physician, has supported the research centre to conduct various national scale research projects including COVID-19 vaccine trials, booster studies and immunity research. The centre also collaborates with leading research organisations such as Public Health Wales, universities, and NHS university trusts.
Dr Orod Osanlou has enhanced links with the North Wales Medical School, Bangor University and Wrexham University, and is course Director for a Master of Research degree in Clinical Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics at Bangor University, for doctors to learn more about the clinical use of medicines, and experimental medicines used in drug trials.
The NWCRF has also welcomed undergraduate students on placement from Bangor University. The NWCRF supports our colleagues access formal training programmes rotate through the facility, and funding for the MScRes, which has led to HEIW approving Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics ST4 Higher Speciality Training in North Wales.
The NWCRF has a secure database of volunteers and patients who are willing to be contacted about future research projects. The database called Consent 4 Consent (C4C) i s an internal secure database of patients and volunteers who wish to be considered as potential participants for research projects. Our research healthcare professionals will be the only people to have access to the information.
