Oral and maxillo-facial surgery relates to a wide spectrum of diseases, injuries and defects in the head, neck, face, jaws and the hard and soft tissues of the mouth and face.
This includes developmental facial anomalies including cleft lip and palate, facial trauma and surgery required in the management of orofacial malignancy.
The scope of oral and maxillo-facial surgery has widened over the last 15 years and continues to develop. A wide range of procedures are performed, ranging from relatively minor surgery through to complex head and neck surgery.
Maxillo-facial Consultants have combined medical, dental and surgical training which reflects the broad nature of the work undertaken by the specialty.
