Adult Palliative Care

The aim of palliative care is to maintain and, as far as possible, improve the quality of life of people with non-curable progressive illnesses and support those closest to them.

What does this mean for you?

  • Helping people and those closest to them cope with the emotional upset and practical problems of the situation
  • Helping to deal with emotional/spiritual/financial matters which may arise from having a serious illness
  • Helping you to live as actively as possible
  • Linking in and signposting to other supportive services
  • Supporting families and friends throughout the illness of a loved one.
  • Giving people the opportunity to explore support services and care at end of life.

If a person is struggling with symptoms, then they can contact their GP or key healthcare professional to see if they are able to help. They have the ability to refer on to Specialist Palliative Care Team for additional assessment and support when necessary.
