We would like to thank the tens of thousands of people across North Wales who have come forward to receive their NHS flu and COVID-19 vaccines. We encourage everyone eligible for the vaccines to take up the offer as soon as they can to help to protect the most vulnerable from serious illness this winter.
Flu is circulating earlier than usual this autumn, and hospitals throughout Wales are admitting patients with influenza. Case numbers are expected to rise over the coming weeks.
We would also like to thank all our colleagues in GP surgeries and community pharmacies, and members of the health board’s vaccination teams across the region, for their hard work to deliver these vaccines in their communities.
For most patients, vaccination appointments will take place at clinics held at their normal GP practice. If a patient is eligible for both vaccines, they will usually be offered at the same time.
Patients eligible for the flu vaccine (including children aged 2 and 3) may attend a flu vaccination clinic advertised by their GP surgery. Patients should look out for details from their surgery to book a slot or arrange vaccination.
Appointment letters for one or both vaccines will also continue to be sent to eligible adults throughout October and November.
Patients registered at the small number of GP practices which are unable to deliver COVID-19 vaccines will be invited to an appointment at one of the health board’s vaccination centres or an alternative venue close to their home. Where necessary, some patients may also be invited to have a flu vaccine at a vaccination centre or other venue.
The NHS flu vaccine is also available for adults at most community pharmacies across North Wales. Eligible patients who choose to have their NHS flu vaccine at a community pharmacy may need to book an appointment in advance.
