We are seeking to invest in specialist Nuclear Medicine services by creating a new state-of-the-art assessment centre at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd.
We are currently progressing design proposals for the project as part of the business case approval process. As part of the project, a public consultation is being held on the outline design proposals, in advance of the submission of a planning application.
Diagnostic nuclear medicine is a radiological specialty used to diagnose diseases and injuries and to help clinicians monitor the progress of patient treatment. It is a very sensitive method of imaging and helps to identify abnormalities very early in the progression of diseases.
Nuclear medicine involves the patient being administered with a type of medicine called a radiopharmaceutical, which does not have any side effects. The radiopharmaceutical is chosen specifically for the type of investigation being undertaken, and involves a small amount of radioactivity, which leaves the body fairly soon after the test. The radioactivity allows specialised imaging equipment to be able to follow the path of the medicine through the body. This now is a common and established test.
We are seeking to consolidate existing Nuclear Medicine services, which are currently provided across three main acute hospital sites, namely Ysbyty Glan Clwyd, Wrexham Maelor and Ysbyty Gwynedd, to provide an enhanced dedicated facility, capable of delivering improved levels of patient care.
The proposed new building would provide an extension to the existing hospital buildings. It would provide a permanent base for x2 Gamma cameras and x1 PET CT scanner, alongside patient and administrative support spaces.
In advance of progressing a planning application with Denbighshire County Council, we are consulting the community on the draft proposals. Following the consultation period, it is intended that an outline planning application will be submitted to the Council.
An outline planning application will initially be submitted. This process will involve design parameters for the proposals being submitted for initial approval, in advance of further design development taking place. If permission for the outline planning application is granted by the Council, full design details will subsequently be prepared and then submitted to the Council for approval as part of a reserved matters application.
The consultation will begin on the 11th September 2023 and will run until the 8th October.
In advance of plans being submitted to Denbighshire County Council, we are inviting the community to share their views on the proposals.
Details of the proposals can be accessed below;
If you would like to comment on the proposals, feedback can be provided online by completing the below survey. The closing date for responses is 8th October 2023.
