Health Board to take over running of Holyhead surgery

Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board will be taking over the running of Longford Surgery in Holyhead from September 2019.

This comes following the surgery’s partners six month notice that they were terminating their contract with the Health Board to provide GP services from Longford Surgery as at the end of August 2019.

Wyn Thomas, Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board’s Assistant Director for Primary Care in the West, said: “Despite a period of national advertising the practice to seek a new partnership, we have received no applications.

“To ensure Longford Surgery continues to provide services we can confirm that from 1 September 2019, Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board will take over the management of the surgery and the employment of the staff there.

“We would like to reassure patients that there will be a continuity of services for the practice and there is no need for them to take any action or to register with a different GP practice. We would like to thank the partners for their service to the area over the years.”

Longford Surgery Practice Manager, Ayshea Saleemi, added: “We would like to reassure our patients that we are working hard to ensure the service at the practice continues to run as normal as possible.

“We are actively recruiting GPs to work at the practice but in the interim we will have regular locum GPs to support us.

“Our reception staff will continue to be the first point of contact. Patients with ongoing chronic conditions will continue to receive monitoring and care by the same Practice Nurse and Health Care Support Worker they are familiar with.

“The team also includes two Nurse Practitioners who are experienced in managing minor ailments, acute illness and ongoing care. In addition to our nursing team, the Health Board provide a Physiotherapist trained in diagnosis and management of musculoskeletal problems.”
