Health Board awarded risk management team of the year at prestigious CIR awards

We have been recognised at the 2025 CIR Risk Management Awards, receiving five national nominations and winning Risk Management Team of the Year.

Nesta Collingridge, Head of Risk Management, attended the ceremony in London on Friday to accept the award on behalf of the organisation.

The CIR Awards are one of the UK’s most prestigious cross-sector risk management events, with winners this year including major global organisations such as Saudi Aramco, EDF Energy – Hinkley Point C, Aviva Insurance, KAEA (Jet Decommissioning), Rolls-Royce, Monzo Bank, and Nationwide Building Society. BCUHB was the only healthcare organisation recognised among these sectors, making the achievement particularly significant and reflective of the Board’s commitment to strengthening governance, assurance and enterprise risk management.

Winning the Risk Management Team of the Year acknowledges the team’s effectiveness in strengthening organisational resilience, and supporting informed decision-making.

Discussing the award, Nesta said: “This award belongs first and foremost to Huw Williams, Jody Evans, Linda Dyson, our Regional Risk Managers; Danielle Hunt, Anthony Hughes Risk Assurance Manager. It recognises your commitment to strengthening our entire risk infrastructure, the countless hours of advice, and the support you have given to our services.

“A big thank you also goes to Pam Wenger, our Director of Corporate Governance, and Chief Executive, Carol Shillabeer, for their leadership, support and guidance throughout this meaningful change. And to our Board members — thank you for all the support and patience during this transformation.

“But most of all, this award is for our 500 risk leads and managers across the organisation – those of you who have taken the time to write risks, attended our training, kept risks up to date, and most importantly driven actions that directly make patient care safer. Thank you for everything you do.”
