Doctors in training have ranked Ysbyty Gwynedd’s Emergency Department as the best place to train in Wales for a second year running.
Results from the recent National Training Survey by the General Medical Council (GMC) shows more than 90 per cent of doctors in training are pleased with the quality of clinical supervision, experience and the teaching they receive at the Emergency Department.
The GMC run the annual training survey every year to gain a comprehensive picture of the experiences of doctors in training and trainers across the UK.
Dr Nikki Sommers, Consultant in Emergency Medicine and Clinical Lead at the hospitals Emergency Department, said: “We value teamwork, compassion and excellence in our Emergency Department and it’s wonderful to receive fantastic feedback for a second year running that we are doing things right despite the challenges we are facing.
“We are extremely proud to be ranked top in Wales, and fifth in the UK, for overall trainee satisfaction.
“Teaching and education is at the heart of everything we do here – when you have happy and supported doctors they provide better patient care.
“We have an amazing team here who provide great support to our trainees, from our admin staff, nurses and Consultants who all make sure they feel welcome and supported during their time here.”
Resident Doctor, Dr Jordan Cazier arrived in Ysbyty Gwynedd Emergency Department two years ago and has praised the friendly atmosphere in the department and the support from her senior colleagues.
She said: “I’m not surprised that the department has been ranked top in Wales as the best place to train for the second year running.
“I arrived two years ago, I wasn’t meant to be here this long but I chose to stay as the department is such a great place to work.
“I have a very good work life balance, I get fantastic support from my colleagues with teaching and also emotional support when needed. It is also the perfect place to live, we are a very outdoorsy department so I thoroughly enjoy working somewhere where I can enjoy being in nature and the mountains.”
Ysbyty Glan Clwyd and Wrexham Maelor Hospital have also received results from their trainees with over 70 per cent of their doctors in training providing positive feedback about their experience there.
