Waiting list support service (WLSS)

Under Development

If you are a patient on a waiting list for treatment, or know someone who needs support whilst they wait, the waiting list support service can help.  We:

  • Offer a single point of contact and will provide support and advice on managing your health and keeping healthy
  • Will discuss what matters to you and signpost referrals to other health care of community based services
  • will review your situation while you are on the waiting list, to see if there is any additional support that could help improve your quality of life and independence and support you to take control over your condition whilst waiting
  • can provide reassurance and advice on what you can do if your symptoms deteriorate.

You can contact the WLSS in a variety of ways (by telephone or email), our office is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 3pm (excludes bank holidays). Outside of these hours, please leave a message and a member of the team will call you back during office hours.

Waiting Well

If you are currently waiting for surgery or treatment, preparing effectively can make a significant difference to your experience of treatment and your recovery.

It is important however to follow any advice you may have been given directly from a health care professional such as your consultant, which is unique to your condition or planned treatment.

Below we have included a variety of general information about the following:

  • Keeping Active
  • Stopping smoking or cutting down
  • Eating well
  • Reduce your alcohol intake or stop drinking
  • Mental Health and Wellbeing

The length of time you have to wait will depend on your specific treatment and clinical need. We are working to treat people as quickly as possible by increasing the number of people that can be seen daily.

The length of time you wait for your treatment is known as the referral to treatment (RTT) pathway. The RTT pathway includes time spent waiting for any hospital appointments, tests, scans, or other procedures that may be needed before you are treated.

NHS 111 Wales Planned Care Waiting list

It is important that you contact your hospital should you wish to come off the waiting list. You can discuss this with our Outpatient Contact Centre.

If you are a patient and are travelling to or from hospital, you will normally be expected to organise your own transport – whether that be driving, using public transport, or asking for help from family and friends.

When this is not possible, you may be eligible for our patient transport service, be able to use community transport services or get help with travelling costs.

To change the date and time of your appointment you can discuss this with our Outpatient Contact Centre.
