Pregnant women

Flu

Pregnant women usually receive their flu vaccine from their GP surgery as part of their health checks during pregnancy. You will normally be invited to attend an appointment at your surgery.

Pregnant women can have the free flu vaccination at any stage of their pregnancy. Please get the vaccine as early possible this winter.

If you have any questions about your flu vaccine, please contact your community midwife.

All appointments for autumn COVID-19 booster vaccines will be arranged by invitation.

If you are eligible for an autumn COVID-19 booster vaccine, you will receive a letter with details of your vaccination appointment. You may be invited to attend your GP surgery or vaccination centre.

People aged 50 or over

Flu

Anyone aged over 50 can receive a free flu vaccine at their GP surgery, or at one of the many community pharmacies offering vaccination across North Wales.

GP surgeries usually invite patients to book an appointment to receive their flu vaccine. You may be invited by letter, text message, phone call, or in person while at your surgery for another appointment. Your surgery may use social media or other messaging systems to invite patients to book an appointment.

GP surgeries normally invite the most vulnerable patients to receive their flu vaccine first. In some areas, you may be invited to attend a vaccination centre instead of your surgery. When you receive an invitation to get your vaccine, please take it up.

Almost 150 community pharmacies in North Wales offer free flu vaccines to people aged 50 and over. You may need to book an appointment.

NHS Staff

Flu

Betsi Cadwaladr and other NHS staff can receive their flu vaccination in number of ways – at work through a peer vaccinator, at a staff vaccination clinic, or at a local community pharmacy.

Flu vaccine for children

Children aged two or three (on August 31 2022) will be offered a painless nasal spray flu vaccine at their GP surgery.

GP surgeries usually invite parents of two and three year olds to book an appointment for their child to receive their flu vaccine. Your child may be invited by letter, text message, phone call, or in person while at your surgery for another appointment. Your surgery may use social media or other messaging systems to invite patients to book an appointment.

Children aged six months to two years with a chronic health condition will also be offered a free flu vaccine at their GP surgery.

In some areas, you may be invited to attend a vaccination centre instead of your surgery. When you receive an invitation for your child to get their vaccine, please take it up.

All school children (from reception to Year 11) will be offered a painless nasal spray flu vaccine at school during the autumn term. Flu vaccines will be delivered by school nurses or other vaccination teams from the health board.

Please look out for more information about flu vaccination clinics at your child’s school and ensure you complete a consent form for your child.
