The purpose of Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board's Mental Health and Capacity Compliance Committee, established in July 2021 following the Board's approval of the Integrated Governance Framework, is to ensure that all the requirements of the Mental Health Act 1983 (as amended) are met by the Health Board.
The Health Board’s Mental Health and Capacity Compliance Committee has a very narrow remit. The purpose of the Committee is to consider and monitor the use of the Mental Health Act 1983 (MHA), Mental Capacity Act 2005 (which includes the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) (MCA) and the Mental Health (Wales) Measure 2010 (the Measure) and provide assurance to the Board.
Governance, leadership, quality and safety matters relating to mental health fall within the remit of the Quality, Safety and Experience Committee. This Committee has continued to meet throughout the period of the pandemic.
Meetings of all the Health Board’s Committees are now taking place virtually.
The Annual Workplan sets out the Committee's working practices including the requirement for a Cycle of Business (CoB) which is regularly revised.
