A special moment has marked a new chapter for maternity care in North Wales, as the first baby has been born following the introduction of a new digital maternity system.
Immy is the first "BadgerNet baby” to be born at Ysbyty Gwynedd, Bangor, arriving to proud parents Saphron and Sam. Her birth represents an important milestone for expectant parents who will now experience a more connected and informed pregnancy journey.
BadgerNet, the new digital maternity record system will replace traditional hand-held notes, giving expectant parents secure access to their pregnancy information through their smartphone, tablet or computer devices. Through the BadgerNotes app and portal, parents can see updates about their care in real time, alongside appointment details and trusted guidance about pregnancy and birth.
For expectant parents, this means having important information at their fingertips, helping them feel more involved, reassured and in control throughout their pregnancy.
Fiona Giraud, Director of Midwifery & Women’s Services, said:
“The launch of BadgerNet represents a significant step in the continued digital transformation of maternity services. By improving access to information for parents and streamlining processes for staff, the new system helps ensure maternity teams can deliver safe, personalised and high-quality care for every family.”
As well as improving the experience for parents, the system supports maternity teams by reducing paperwork and allowing information to be recorded in one secure place, helping staff spend more time focusing on caring for families. The system is being supported by women’s services and digital colleagues across acute and community sites, with digital midwives playing a key role in supporting the roll out across North Wales.
Parents-to-be can ask their community midwife for more information about BadgerNet and how to access their digital maternity record.
