Glan Clwyd Hospital's Emergency Quadrant wins Environmental Sustainability Award at BCUHB Achievement Awards

Glan Clwyd Hospital’s Emergency Quadrant has been recognised for outstanding environmental work, winning the Environmental Sustainability Award at this year’s BCUHB Achievement Awards.  

Under Natasha Hughes’s leadership, the Emergency Quadrant has achieved a bronze-level award from the Royal College of Emergency Medicine’s GreenED programme, which celebrates innovative sustainability projects in Emergency Departments across the UK. 

Key achievements include: 

  • Introducing sustainability initiatives as part of all staff inductions 
  • Reducing single-use plastics across the department 
  • Reviewing waste streams to improve recycling rates 
  • Exploring switching to dry powder inhalers to reduce carbon emissions from medications 
  • Removing plastic drug dispensing pods 

Dr Nandita Parmar, Emergency Medicine Consultant and Clinical Director for the Emergency Quadrant at Glan Clwyd Hospital said: "Natasha and the Emergency Quadrant team have demonstrated exceptional leadership in environmental sustainability. Their dedication not only benefits the planet but also sets a benchmark for sustainable practice across our hospitals."
