Billy Nichols

Billy, a dedicated healthcare professional, was born on the Wirral and lives in Chester. His journey in the field of nursing began with training at Guy’s Hospital, followed by working at St Thomas', The Royal London, and The Middlesex Hospitals (part of University College Hospital London). In 2002, Billy returned to live in the north west of England and started working at Wrexham Maelor Hospital, where he has remained with the Health Board ever since. Billy has also been actively involved with the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) as Steward and Health and Safety Representative as well as the Secretariat of the Health Board’s Trade Union Partner’s committee.

In 2012 Billy helped to establish Celtic Pride, the Health Board’s LGBT+ Staff Support Network. Under Billy’s guidance, the Health Board achieved recognition in Stonewall’s Top 100 of inclusive employers. Billy’s impact goes beyond the workplace, as he has been twice acknowledged on Wales’s 'Pinc List' of influential LGBT+ people. In 2021, Billy received the Royal College of Nursing's highest honor, the Award of Merit, in recognition of his outstanding voluntary service to the College.
