Healthcare Inspectorate Wales (HIW)

Healthcare Inspectorate Wales (HIW) is the independent inspectorate and regulator of all health care in Wales.

HIW’s purpose is to provide independent and objective assurance on the quality, safety and effectiveness of healthcare services making recommendations to healthcare organisations to promote improvements.

During the year, the Health Board is inspected through a variety of ways, including:

  • Dignified and Essential Care Inspections
  • Infection prevention and control inspections
  • Reviewing Mental Health and Learning disabilities
  • Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations 2000
