Director of Estates and Environment 

Stuart is the Director of Environment and Estates and a member of the Executive Team.  He is responsible for the day to day management of the estate as well as the delivery of the capital programme covering areas from helipads to new facilities.  Stuart is the Executive lead for facilities and health and safety together with security and the Health Boards response to climate change and sustainability.

Qualified as a Chartered Building Surveyor in 1993, Stuart initially worked within a variety of roles in private practice.  During this time he developed experience in project management as well as estate operation and management with substantial experience in the specification and management of contracts for works and services.  He was responsible for the replacement of an ice rink within a listed building as well as developments in Paris and the Netherlands.  He also undertook work within the UK for some high profile NHS Trusts on space utilisation, defect diagnosis and condition surveys.

Stuart joined the NHS in 2015 at The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust in London and then University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust where he led the Grafton Way Development.  Stuart joined The Christie NHS Foundation Trust as Director of Capital and Estates and relocated to Manchester in 2019 where he was responsible for a number of major projects as well as day to day estates and facilities.  These included leading the £36m Christie at Macclesfield, the £145m Paterson development and a 23 bedroom ward delivered within 5 weeks during the Covid 19 pandemic.  Stuart has most recently worked on the development of joint venture opportunities and alternative delivery models using partnerships as well as an outline business case.  He holds Better Business Case Practitioner accreditation and is also a member of the Association of Project Management.

Stuart is passionate about maximising the potential of an estate to provide the best possible environment for staff and service users as well as building relationships with key stakeholders to facilitate and maximise opportunities.  His skillset supports the development of an agile Estate Strategy as well as Estate rationalisation programmes.

Outside of work, Stuart is married with a daughter who is studying for a PhD.  He spends his spare time outside in the hills and fells of Derbyshire and soon, North Wales.
