Have your say on the future of Tywyn Community Hospital

We are inviting local residents and community groups to share their views on the future of Tywyn Community Hospital as part of a formal service review.

Since April 2023, the inpatient ward at Tywyn Hospital has been temporarily closed due to ongoing challenges in safely staffing the service. While recruitment efforts have made progress, issues with workforce skill mix, retention, and resilience remain, affecting the safe and sustainable delivery of the ward alongside other vital services provided at the hospital.

In response, the Health Board has collaborated with local partners to strengthen alternative services. These initiatives include expanding beds at Dolgellau Hospital, launching the Tuag Adref (Homeward Bound) community service, reopening the Minor Injuries Unit, and establishing a new Treatment Room and Wellbeing Hub at Tywyn Hospital.

As part of the ongoing review, we are considering various options for the future of services at Tywyn Hospital. This includes evaluating the potential for reopening the inpatient ward and exploring other high-quality, sustainable care models that meet the needs of the local community.

Paolo Tardivel, our Interim Executive Director of Transformation and Strategic Planning said:

Tywyn Community Hospital currently provides community services in the local area, and we want to understand how any future services can meet the needs and expectations of the people who live and work here. We encourage everyone with an interest in the hospital to share their views, as this will help us shape the best possible way forward.

We are inviting local people, staff, and interested groups to participate in an online survey, to inform the development of options for the future, before any decisions are made.
