Rhian's career has been wholly in the public service: education, educational broadcasting and the civil service in Wales. Most recently she served as independent member of the Board of Social Care Wales (SCW) and its predecessor organisation The Care Council for Wales (CCW). Caring responsibilities led her to understand more about social care, the workforce and the very real challenges facing the sector. She wanted to play a part having experienced what seemed to be the often dysfunctional nature of health and care when helping family deal with dementia and increasing frailty.
She chaired the Standards and Regulations Committee for CCW, the Governance group of the panel which advised Welsh Government Ministers on the composition and corporate governance arrangements for the new Board of SCW and became the Chair of the Audit and Risk Committee from the outset.
A Welsh speaker, Rhian has lived and worked in north, south and west Wales. Until April 2024, She was chair at Hanes Llandoch charity and was a member of St Dogmaels Community Council. She likes planning and taking holidays, cars, swimming and shopping.
