Flu vaccine for children

To help protect children and more vulnerable people in the community from the risks associated with flu, vaccines will be offered to every child aged between two and 16.

Children aged two or three

Children aged two or three (on 31 August 2023) will be offered a painless nasal spray flu vaccine at their GP surgery.

Children aged six months to two years with a chronic health condition

Children aged six months to two years with a chronic health condition will also be offered a free flu vaccine at their GP surgery. This group will also be invited for a COVID-19 Autumn booster vaccine – please see People (including children) with a long-term health condition below.

When you receive an invitation for your child to be vaccinated, please take up the opportunity.

All school children (from reception to Year 11)

All school children (from reception to Year 11) will be offered a painless nasal spray flu vaccine at school during the autumn term. Flu vaccines will be provided by school vaccination teams at special clinics held during school hours.

Please look out for more information about flu vaccination clinics at your child's school and ensure you complete a consent form for your child.

It's not too late to boost your child's protection against flu - clinics are still being held in some schools. If your child missed out on being vaccinated in class, please look out for details of catch-up clinics in your area.
