I’m the Deputy Ward Manager on Dinas Female Ward at the Ablett Unit, Glan Clwyd Hospital. I began my journey with Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCUHB) in 2009 as a Healthcare Support Worker, before going on to study Mental Health Nursing at Bangor University, this was my second degree, following a BA in History with Journalism.
My early experience in healthcare was broad and enriching, with 18 months on the HCSW bank covering shifts in Ysbyty Gwynedd’s Hergest Unit and on both surgical and medical wards. I then spent a further 18 months working in the North Wales Adolescent Service (inpatient CAMHS) before qualifying as a Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) in 2012. I was proud to take up a permanent role on Dinas Female Ward and have served as the Deputy Ward Manager since 2014.
I’m a passionate advocate for mental health and proud to be a Mental Health Ambassador for NHS Wales. I represent mental health nurse recruitment across North Wales, and I’m deeply committed to challenging stigma and promoting the powerful link between nature, physical activity, and mental wellbeing.
Outside of work, I’m an enthusiastic outdoor pursuits and sportswoman. I’m a qualified Lowland Expedition Leader and this year, I’m taking on the immense challenge of climbing Mount Kilimanjaro to raise awareness and vital funds for Mental Health UK. Fundraising is a real passion of mine – I completed the London Marathon in 2022, raising money for Hearing Dogs for Deaf People. I’m also a committed member of Porth Eirias Runners, regularly competing in road races from 5Ks to half marathons, and I’m currently learning to sky dive – a thrilling new adventure!
In addition to my healthcare work, I also serve as a Casual Funeral Service Operative with T Conchar & Sons in Colwyn Bay, which brings a unique and rewarding perspective to my professional life.
My dedication to service began early through my involvement with the Air Cadets. I started at 13 and progressed to Cadet Warrant Officer by the age of 20, completing all my classifications, the Duke of Edinburgh Award, and gaining both gliding and flying scholarships. I attended camps across the UK, Germany, and the USA. While at university, I remained involved as a Civilian Instructor before taking a break and returning seven years ago. Since then, I’ve progressed from Civilian Instructor to Uniformed Staff, qualifying as an Expedition Leader and becoming a Flight Sergeant.
Just ten days after my promotion, I was appointed Officer in Charge of Colwyn Bay Squadron. I completed the Unit Commanders Course at RAF College Cranwell and was promoted to Warrant Officer. I continue to lead the squadron and am currently undergoing the commissioning process – with my regional board ahead, I’m excited for the next chapter in my cadet forces journey.
Driven, compassionate, and committed to both healthcare and youth development, I bring energy, leadership, and purpose to everything I do.
