Listed below are the meetings that will be more directly relevant to you.
All young people meet in the morning and in the evening. In these meetings, young people find out which staff are on duty, and plan activities and sessions.
The group also discusses how young people are getting on together. It is an opportunity to get support and advice from other young people. Sometimes, issues may be brought up and resolved. If you behave in a way that is unacceptable to other people, then they have the right to raise their concerns in one of these meetings. This is an opportunity to understand what has happened and to put things right. You are expected to attend these meetings.
These meetings take place every 2 weeks. Here the young people have the space to discuss concerns they may have, ideas to improve the ward environment or their thoughts on how to improve the experience of young people on the ward.
Your P&P meeting is held every 2 weeks with Tier 3 CAMHS, Education and the NWAS Team. This is to ensure that everyone has a good understanding of your progress. The previous two weeks are reviewed, and plans and goals are set for the next two weeks’ treatment.
We invite Young People and their parents/carers to attend the meeting. Here you will all be able to ask questions and contribute to your care. An invitation to join via Teams will be emailed to your parents/carers in advance.
There may also be times the ward team want to meet with you outside of these meetings they will contact you directly to arrange. Equally, you can request to meet with the team.
Reviews are held every 6 weeks so we can reflect on your overall progress. You will be invited to attend along with your family, members of your CAMHS team and Kestrel treatment team (including education), and Social Worker (if you have one). The purpose of the meetings is to review how your treatment is going, your progress in education, and how things are at home.
It is an important opportunity for your parents/carers to meet up with your team and to discuss your progress and be involved in future treatment planning. It is also important that someone from the community team attends to keep them up to date and helps them plan for when you are discharged back to their care. We often discuss whether you are ready for discharge and what is needed to get there. If you have a social worker attending, they will also contribute to your current treatment and plans for discharge.
NB. The dates of these meetings will be set upon admission and will be shared with you and your parents/carers. The Patient and Family Liaison officer will also be contactable by yourselves if you require any support prior, during or following a meeting.
When you arrive at NWAS you will be met by a member of the clinical team who will go through some admission paperwork with you and your parents/ carer. You will also meet with a Advanced Nurse Practitioner and a Doctor.
You will be allocated a staff buddy to show you around the unit and where your room is. They will explain the ward routine and expectations. Your buddy will introduce you to the other young people on the ward and staff on shift. All staff will introduce themselves using the ‘Hello my name is…’ approach.
Throughout the duration of your stay, they will support you in your progress, arrange and attend meetings with you and will keep in touch with your parent, carers and/ or relatives and community team as required. If you have any questions at all about your stay, treatment, or any concerns they will be there to listen. You can also choose to have a chat or a session with any member of staff in the unit.
