Llinos Edwards, who has worked for the NHS for more than 40 years, is awarded a British Empire Medal for her work with the Looked After Children’s Team.
Llinos said: “Our specialist statutory role was created more than 20 years ago and I was very fortunate to take up one of the first positions. Our main purpose is to ensure that whilst children and young people are in the care of the local authorities all their health needs are being met.
“To achieve this we work very closely with our health and local authority colleagues, carers, residential settings, families and most importantly the children and young people themselves.
“We are a team of excellent nurses and administrative staff coordinating everything and over the years have built a strong network in Wales and the UK. Across the Health Board the team supports over 1,800 children and young people.”
Llinos, based in Gwynedd, was Team Leader before retiring and returning to work as a nurse for the team.
Llinos added: “It’s nice seeing my name in the list, but the team I work with are so strong and fantastic, I couldn’t do the role on my own.
“It’s been very humbling really being told I was receiving this award, but the whole team are worthy of this, so I will be accepting this for them too. Thank you to those who took the time to nominate me, diolch yn fawr iawn.”
