Updates on our vaccination plans and progress in North Wales
December 12, 2025
School aged children (Reception to Year 11) will be able to walk in to one of our community vaccination clinics to get a flu vaccine from Monday December 15. Bookable appointments are also available at some clinics.
Please find locations, dates and times for our clinics across North Wales here.
Children who aged 2 and 3 (on August 31 2025) can still get a painless nasal spray flu vaccine at their GP surgery.
Many thousands of children across North Wales have received the painless nasal spray flu vaccine at special clinics held at their school this Autumn and Winter.
We are now extending our normal catch-up clinics for any school aged children who have missed or not taken up the opportunity to get vaccinated. Slots are available throughout North Wales.
During November across the three main hospitals in North Wales, a total of 75 children needed inpatient treatment after testing positive for flu. This represented almost half of the total number of inpatient cases during the month.
It is likely that cases of flu will continue to rise over the next few weeks, as friends and families gather to celebrate Christmas, socialise and spend more time together indoors.
We urge parents to protect their children by making sure they take up the vaccine. This could prevent a nasty illness, complications like pneumonia, or a stay in hospital – and will help to reduce the spread of the virus in North Wales. It will also help to protect older and more vulnerable people in our families and wider communities.
Clinics will take place in 19 locations across North Wales during the week from Monday December 15. Walk in flu and COVID-19 vaccinations are also available for all eligible adults.
Parents will be able to bring their children to walk in for a flu vaccine without an appointment from 3.30pm. Dates and closing times vary by location, so please check full details of our clinics carefully.
Bookable appointments are also available at some clinics.
Children who are unable to have the nasal spray vaccine can receive an injectable, gelatine-free alternative. Further information about flu vaccination for school-age children is available here.
The flu vaccine will be offered to everyone in North Wales aged 65 and over, and adults aged under 65 with a wide range of health conditions – including asthma or other breathing difficulties, diabetes and heart complaints.
NHS and health workers, people who work in social care, and carers can also protect themselves and the people they care for with the flu vaccine. Pregnant women will be offered a flu vaccine as part of their routine health checks.
Painless nasal spray flu vaccines are available from GP surgeries for children aged two and three (age on August 31 2025). Schoolchildren from Reception to Year 11 can still get a spray flu vaccine at catch-up clinics organised by our school immunisation teams. Please look out for more details advertised through their school.
Full details of eligibility for the NHS flu vaccine – including qualifying health conditions and how to get it – are available here.
Following guidance from the Welsh Government, only those adults at highest risk of serious illness caused by COVID-19 will be invited to receive an Autumn COVID-19 vaccine in 2025.
