Updates on our vaccination plans and progress in North Wales
October 28, 2025
We would like to thank the tens of thousands of people across North Wales who have come forward to receive their NHS flu and COVID-19 vaccines. We encourage everyone eligible for the vaccines to take up the offer as soon as they can to help to protect the most vulnerable from serious illness this winter.
Flu is circulating earlier than usual this autumn, and hospitals throughout Wales are admitting patients with influenza. Case numbers are expected to rise over the coming weeks.
We would also like to thank all our colleagues in GP surgeries and community pharmacies, and members of the health board’s vaccination teams across the region, for their hard work to deliver these vaccines in their communities.
About your vaccination appointment
For most patients, vaccination appointments will take place at clinics held at their normal GP practice. If a patient is eligible for both vaccines, they will usually be offered at the same time.
Patients eligible for the flu vaccine (including children aged 2 and 3) may attend a flu vaccination clinic advertised by their GP surgery. Patients should look out for details from their surgery to book a slot or arrange vaccination.
Appointment letters for one or both vaccines will also continue to be sent to eligible adults throughout October and November.
Patients registered at the small number of GP practices which are unable to deliver COVID-19 vaccines will be invited to an appointment at one of the health board’s vaccination centres or an alternative venue close to their home. Where necessary, some patients may also be invited to have a flu vaccine at a vaccination centre or other venue.
The NHS flu vaccine is also available for adults at most community pharmacies across North Wales. Eligible patients who choose to have their NHS flu vaccine at a community pharmacy may need to book an appointment in advance.
People eligible for the annual NHS Flu vaccine
The flu vaccine will be offered to everyone in North Wales aged 65 and over, and adults aged under 65 with a wide range of health conditions – including asthma or other breathing difficulties, diabetes and heart complaints.
NHS and health workers, people who work in social care, and carers can also protect themselves and the people they care for with the flu vaccine.
Children aged 2 and 3 will be offered a painless nasal spray flu vaccine at their GP surgery. School aged children will be offered the same vaccine at special clinics held at school.
Pregnant women will be offered a flu vaccine as part of their routine health checks.
Full details of eligibility for the NHS flu vaccine – including qualifying health conditions and how to get it – are available here.
People eligible for the Autumn COVID-19 vaccine
Following guidance from the Welsh Government, only those adults at highest risk of serious illness caused by COVID-19 will be invited to receive an Autumn COVID-19 vaccine in 2025.
The vaccine will be offered to the same groups invited to receive in our Spring vaccination campaign.
This includes:
- all adults aged 75 or over,
- people who live in care homes for older adults, and
- all adults and children aged six months or over who have a weaker immune system as a result of a health condition or medical treatment.
A full list of conditions and full details of eligibility are available here.
