Updates on our vaccination plans and progress in North Wales

    March 13, 2025

More than 67,000 people at highest risk from serious illness caused by COVID-19 increased their protection against the virus across North Wales this autumn and winter

We would like to thank everyone who took up their offer of vaccination, which has helped to reduce serious illness caused by COVID-19. North Wales had the joint highest rate of COVID-19 vaccine uptake in Wales during the campaign.

We would also like to thank the many people who supported delivery of the vaccine in our area – including our partners in GP surgeries and community pharmacies, and those who helped more vulnerable family members, friends and loved ones attend a vaccination appointment.

Following guidance from the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation and the Welsh Government, our teams are currently planning the Spring COVID-19 vaccine programme in North Wales.

In line with prior Spring campaigns, the vaccine will be offered to adults aged 75 or over, residents in care homes for older adults, and adults and children aged six month or over with a weaker immune system.

We expect to begin delivering this year’s Spring COVID-19 vaccine in April. Our teams are currently finalising delivery plans and will share further details shortly.

    Extension of RSV vaccine eligibility

Following updated advice from the JCVI and the Welsh Government, eligibility for the RSV vaccine will be extended to everyone over the age of 80 and all residents of care homes for older adults.

The vaccine has been offered to people aged between 75 and 80 since September 2024, and has been shown to be highly effective in protecting against hospitalisation caused by the virus.

Where possible, we hope to be able to offer an RSV vaccine to all eligible older people at the same appointment as the spring COVID-19 vaccine. Our teams are finalising delivery plans for this extended programme here in North Wales and will share further details shortly.

Flu vaccines are available until March 31

Flu is still circulating in the communities of North Wales. We continue to encourage eligible patients who have not had their annual NHS flu vaccine to come forward as soon as possible.

Vaccines are available at community vaccination clinics in 19 locations across North Wales and at a number of GP practices and local community pharmacies until the end of March.

Further information about eligibility for the vaccine and how you can get it, including dates, times and locations of our clinics, is available on the health board’s website.
