Because NWSC is an elective care centre, we only look after patients having scheduled (non-emergency) operations. This means there’s a much lower chance your surgery will be cancelled compared to one of our larger general hospitals, where emergency cases can sometimes delay planned procedures.
The doctors caring for you are the same consultant surgeons and anaesthetists who work in your local hospital. They’re supported by a skilled and experienced team of nurses and allied health professionals who will look after you throughout your stay.
Thanks to modern surgical and anaesthetic techniques, and the expertise of our dedicated team, many patients are able to go home on the same day as their operation or after just one night in hospital. This is now the standard approach in many orthopaedic centres across the country.
Some people may need a little longer to recover, and that’s completely fine — we’ll only discharge you when it’s safe for you to go home and you feel ready.
Having a joint replacement is a journey, and it helps to know what to expect at each step. Being well prepared and actively involved in your care will make a big difference to your recovery.
Our team will guide you through the process, but your own effort and commitment are just as important — how you prepare and take part in your recovery will have a real impact on your outcome.
