Athens is an access management system used to provide access to electronic resources subscribed to by NHS Wales for NHS staff in Wales and local electronic resources purchased by BCUHB Libraries.
An Athens account will give you access to over a thousand full-text journals, a variety of medical databases and other resources on the NHS Wales e-library for health. You will be provided with a unique username and password to allow you to access these resources from work or home.
Go to the NHS Wales e-library page for OpenAthens and click on Register for OpenAthens.
Follow the onscreen instructions. Complete and submit the registration form. Check your details and make a note of your Athens username.
You will receive a confirmation email with an activation link. To use the account you must activate it and select a password.
Registering for an account from home is exactly the same as registering from work. Please be aware that there may be a delay in processing your registration if you choose to register via the internet.
You can access your account in two ways:
Click on the NHS Wales e-Library resources you wish to use and enter your username and password when prompted.
Login via the Login to MyAthens link. Here you will see your own Athens page where you can see and access the resources available to you, view your account details and change your password.
You are not able to change your username but, if you wish to change your password, simply select the “My Account” tab on your MyAthens page. Here you will need to enter your old password and then type in the new one. Alternatively contact your local Athens administrator.
If you can’t remember your password, click on the “OpenAthens password reset” link .
Enter your Athens username and follow the on screen instructions. Athens will email a link that you can use to reset your password.
Please contact your site library for more help.
