Diabetes is a condition that causes a person's blood sugar level to become too high. There are two main types of diabetes:

• Type 1 diabetes is where the body's immune system attacks and destroys the cells that produce insulin. You can find further information and support on Type 1 diabetes here. 
• Type 2 diabetes is where the body doesn't produce enough insulin, or the body's cells don't react to insulin. You can check your Type 2 diabetes risk using the calculating tool on Diabetes UK website.

Our specialist diabetes teams provide services to support adults who are living with diabetes in North Wales. This includes:

• Diabetes specialist clinics
• Information and advice for those with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes
• Carbohydrate counting courses
• Insulin and medication to manage diabetes
• Insulin pump service
• Adolescent transition service - a two year structured process to support children through to young adults living with diabetes
• Review by specialist nurses to assess those with complex diabetes in order to help plan and provide treatment
• Telephone support and advice service 
• Information and support for carers
• Flash glucose monitoring
