Russell Caldicott

Interim CEO Carol Shillabeer has welcomed Russell Caldicott as Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board’s new interim finance director.

Russell is a qualified accountant and full member of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants, with more than 25 years’ experience within NHS organisations.

He has held the post of chief finance officer for Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust for the past eight years and previously occupied senior roles at University Hospitals of North Staffordshire NHS Trust and Sandwell Healthcare NHS Trust.

Russell is a graduate of the University of Birmingham and has been an executive on the board of the West Midlands Healthcare Financial Management Association, providing support and opportunities for development to the finance teams of Central England.

A committed and experienced NHS finance professional, he has supported enhancement of care and development of infrastructure, including a recent £40m Emergency Department.

A qualified Chartered Certified Accountant and fellow of the institution, Russell is also a graduate of the University of Birmingham's Master of Business Administration (executive) and the NHS Leadership Academies Nye Bevan Programme.

A member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) supporting NHS finance professionals’ development, Russell has represented the association overseas, holds office as an executive member and previous chair of the West Midlands branch, and is a recipient of HFMA's 'Outstanding Contribution' award.

He takes up his new role from July 1.
