A new NHS Pharmacy has opened in Llanberis, ensuring that local people once again have easy access to medicines and expert advice on their doorstep.
Following the closure of the town’s pharmacy last year, the Health Board has worked with Fferyllwyr Llŷn, whose other branches include Nefyn, Abersoch, Llanbedrog, Blaenau Ffestiniog and Criccieth, to set up a new pharmacy in the town.
The new pharmacy opened in Llanberis towards the end of November and offers a wide range of services including prescription dispensing and common ailments.
Adam Mackridge, Strategic Lead for Community Pharmacy at Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, said: “Following the decision from the previous pharmacy company to close we worked closely with Fferyllwyr Llŷn who had applied to open a pharmacy in Llanberis to minimise the impact on the community arising from the transitional period.
“To ensure the local community still had access to a pharmacy service the company offered a temporary service to drop off and collect prescriptions so that people didn’t need to travel further afield.
“We would like to applaud the hard work of the team in Fferyllwyr Llŷn that has gone on in to ensuring the people of the community did not experience difficulties in accessing medicines.
“It is fantastic to see that the pharmacy is now fully operational and I am sure that the wide range of clinical services that the team will offer there will positively impact on the local community.
“As a Health Board we are excited to have commissioned a wide range of clinical services from the new pharmacy and look forward to continuing to work with Fferyllwyr Llŷn to help improve access and choice for patients in Llanberis and the wider community, supporting them to live healthier lives.”
Arfon Bebb, who was previously the manager of Fferyllfa HH Parry Pharmacy in Abersoch, has been appointed pharmacist at the new pharmacy.
He said: “We are really pleased to have our new pharmacy up and running in Llanberis to offer a wide range of services for the population.
“We were aware of the need for a pharmacy in the town and the strong feeling from the community around this so we are very happy to open one of our branches here so that local people don’t have to travel further to access pharmaceutical services.”
