Karen Balmer CPFA

Karen, a CIPFA-qualified accountant, and former Assistant Director of Finance in the Health Service, has over 35 years’ experience of financial management, providing both operational and strategic financial leadership within the public, private and not-for-profit sectors.  She combines this with her extensive HR and governance experience to support her role on the board of Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board and as a trustee for other charitable organisations.

In 2011, Karen was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Groundwork North Wales, an environmental charity that works with partners to tackle the social, economic and environmental issues faced by local communities.

Karen has served on the board of Natural Resources Wales for over seven years, with her tenure ending in May 2023.   She is the founder and trustee of the all-ability cycling charity Cycling 4 All.
