Andrology

The Andrology department is based within Pathology at the Maelor Hospital, Wrexham. The department provides testing for fertility, post-vasectomy analysis and retrograde ejaculation investigations. 

  • Samples are accepted by appointment only 
  • A test request form must be provided by a clinician before an appointment can be made.

There is a clinic room available for sample production for patients that live greater than 45 minutes travel time away from the pathology laboratory. This is available by appointment only.

Information on collection and delivery of samples is provided in the semen analysis kits that are available from the clinician or the laboratory. 
The kit includes:

  • A questionnaire: this must be filled in on production of the sample and brought to the laboratory along with the sample.
  • Sample collection pot: The sample collection pot provided with the kit MUST be used – no other collection pots will be accepted.
  • Sample production instructions: Please read the sample production instructions within the kit when the kit is received and follow the instructions when producing the sample or it may be rejected.

Results should be available from the clinician 14 days after the sample is received.
