Due to the COVID-19 crisis and the unprecedented situation, most of the face-to-face Care of the Elderly/ Geriatric Medicine outpatient consultations have unfortunately ceased unless absolutely clinically indicated. Many Elderly Medicine consultants are still continuing to offer telephone clinic consultations on a case-by-case basis.
The in-patient Care of the Elderly wards in the three District General Hospitals across North Wales are fully operational though visiting is suspended. Likewise the Community Hospitals across BCUHB are also fully operational. However, changes in admissions to these wards may be needed in the future depending on the scale of the pandemic.
The Care of the Elderly consultants across BCUHB are providing clinical advice to GPs on older patients at home and in care homes if required. They are also continuing to participate in the management of acutely unwell medical patients who attend the Emergency Department and those who require hospital admission.
Information and advice on the COVID-19 pandemic, including information from the NHS and the UK Government is available at the British Geriatrics Society website.
If you require any further information, you may contact the Care of the Elderly Department secretaries in your local hospital through the hospital's switchboard who will take your message and pass it on to one of the consultants.
