Starchy foods, include bread, potatoes, breakfast cereals, rice, pasta and noodles. They provide an important source of energy and fibre as well as some vitamins. They should make up around a third of the food we eat and be included as part of our meals. Choosing high fibre options such as wholegrain or whole-wheat breads, cereals, rice and pasta, and potatoes with skins on can help to maintain a healthy functioning digestive system.
